2. Compress Files To An Executable Java Archive (JAR):

It is also possible to make an archive that can be executed (run) by Java and even by a double click through your OS, if you have it set up correctly.

Jar file contains MANIFEST file that contains information Java wants to know.

One piece of information a manifest file may contain is the name of a class that will be run if the JAR file is executed.

To create an executable jar file you must specify in which file the main method is there.

You do this by creating a text file called "mainClass.txt" with the following text:

Main-Class: Two

Where Two is the java file name which contains the main method.

IMPORTANT: the text file only needs the one line of text for this purpose. However, the file must end with a blank line other wise this will not work.

Now run the jar utility with this command line:

   jar cmf mainClass.txt example.jar *.class

observe m option and mainClass.txt you will get cleared.

i.e.

create a JAR file (option c) with modifications to the manifest file (option m) as specified within mainClass.txt, naming the JAR file (option f) as example.jar and including everything that matches the pattern *Class.

Running An Executable JAR From Command Line

java -jar example.jar

In windows you can just double click on a jar file instead of doing all these typing.

For this you should have the following to be set.(It is automatically done with java installation but if not you need to do it manually).

‘javaw.exe’ is an application comes with JDK for allow you for Double-click.

Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.

note: see the above image

"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*

IMPORTANT NOTE: include the double quotes to take care of names with spaces.

Every one while working with java comes to a need for jar file creation. Here we will look at how to do all these in straight forward way.

What is jar file?

jAVA arCHIEVE --JAR files are Java's version of ZIP files.

Used for 2 purposes.

1.compress (make a smaller size) a number of files into one file (archiving).

2.To make a Java executable JAR file.

Details:

Compress Files To A Java Archive (JAR):

Syntax -> jar CF example.jar *.java

jar

The command to run the jar utility.

CF

Create a new archive with the file name specified. These two options are from this list of common options:

- c create new archive
- t list table of contents for archive
- x extract named (or all) files from archive
- u update existing archive
- v generate verbose output on standard output
- f specify archive file name
- m include manifest information from specified manifest file
- 0 store only; use no ZIP compression
- M do not create a manifest file for the entries
- i generate index information for the specified jar files
- C change to the specified directory and include the following file

Multiple options can be used together. They all must appear after the "jar" command with no white space separating them.

example.jar

Name of the JAR file. This can only be included if you use the 'f' option.

*.java

i.e. All files that have extension as .java .similarly you can write like *.class to make all your successfully complied java code (byte code) to make as an archive.

Names of all the files you want to put in the jar file. This could be just one name or a list of multiple names separated by space. Names can use pattern matching characters to match multiple files.

If you have 2 java file and you want to make a jar for them.

jar CF example.jar One.java Two.java

example.jar   the name you want for your archive .                                        

two.java   your second file name.

Yes that’s enough to create a jar file or make a jar file for your files.

Problem: Applies to windows

"Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file. During this process, memory requests for some applications may be denied."

Solution: For Windows XP(Because I am using xp now:))

1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

3. In the Performance pane, click Settings.

4. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

5. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.

6. Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value, click Set, and then click OK.

7. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

MAC OS from apple when compared with windows from Microsoft

1) Mac provides security from viruses etc.,(Mac is UNIX based ).But not completely virus protected , it had own some viruses :) .

2)Best suitable for multimedia based applications like photoshop,movie editing etc.,

3)Easy user friendlyness('childlike') within 3 days you will be familiar with Mac If you are new to it.

4)Never allows executable programs to be send as a mail attachments.As outlookexpress from microsoft allows executable programs to be attached to mails and which is the main cause for spreding of viruses.

5)Some what cheap but if you need more functionality you need to buy OSX.

6)You can't listen or able to play music etc., except from Apple site ,thats why it is secure in one
aspect but your world is limited .

7)Administrator is root in Mac but if he is doing some thing regarding security concerns then it
will ask root password. Where as in windows it is administrator who is the final god.

i.e, Mac maintains 2 levels of administrator previlages.

8)To download something in windows operating system from internet it is the browser which ask and controls your downloads by asking your permissions,where as in Mac it is under the complete control of Mac OS by concerning to the permissions for that user(more restricted to do download suspious things).

9)In Mac you can create many common users as like Windows.

10)We can't assure that Mac doesnot affected by viruses as some companies already released some anti-virus software for MAc.Only numorous viruses are found for Mac.

Surprisingly google released its browser(Chrome) with all are thinking of IE8 (No exception for me also)
It is 7MB when compare to IE8 where it is 16MB almost double in size to chrome.

The release says that it is interesting future is popup handler, where all the popup of a tab are handled with convenient manner i.e., all popup of a tab are hidden on a bottom line of that tab you can move the cursor to there and you can select if you wish a popup to be opened.

As to days websites are turned into as applications the browser responsibilities are increased. We never expected that we do chat online, play web-based game when we start with websites and the browsers of those days are not being valid for today’s latest applications. I hope that you will agree with this point particularly.
We tired with annoying popup windows and may clode to fear to open new sites if it the browsers not capable to handle them. Browsers should be stable while we are writing or editing mails,docs and they should load the WebPages faster to feel our experience in good mode.
User interface and security are the key factors.

Google says it has taken all the new things happening in the net world and Chrome is an open source project and code is available for developers to develop and add their own API’s to the Chrome.

Google has considered the apple’s safari weskit and mozilla to do the Chrome .But Chrome is now only for Windows only!

Viruses, worms and Trojan Horses

Viruses, worms and Trojan Horses are all malicious programs that can cause damage to your computer, but there are differences among the three.

Here is the definations of Viruses, worms and Trojan Horses provided for you.

A computer virus:- it is attached to a program, or file so that it is spread from one PC to another computer.

Almost all viruses are attached to an executable file, which means the virus may exist on your computer but it cannot infect your computer unless you run or open the malicious program.

i.e. A virus cannot be spread without a human action, (such as running an infected program).
It is spread generally by sharing infecting files or sending e-mails.

worm :- similar to a virus but it has the capability to travel without any help from a person.
a worm can send a copy of itself to everyone listed in your e-mail address book without your action .
worm consumes too much system memory (or network bandwidth), causing Web servers, network servers and individual computers to stop responding.

Trojan Horse :- it will appear to be useful and legitimate software or legitimate files but will actually do damage once you installed or run on your computer.
They can cause changing your desktop( like adding silly active desktop icons) , deleting files and destroying information on your system.gives malicious users access to your system( called as BACKDOOR)

Note:-Unlike viruses and worms, Trojans do not reproduce by infecting other files.

Note:-A "blended threat" is a sophisticated attack that bundles some of the worst aspects of viruses, worms, Trojan horses and malicious code into one threat.

Booting

BOOTING:-

1."Everything that happens between the time the computer is switched on and it is ready to accept commands/input from the user is known as booting."

2.Booting is the process of loading an operating system into computer primary memory (RAM).

Note:-The term booting originated from bootstrap.

TRIVIA:-

WARM BOOTING:- "you can perform a warm boot by pressing the Restart button".

Restarting a computer that is already turned on via the operating system.
Restarting it returns the computer to its initial state.
Also called rebooting , soft reset.

A warm boot is sometimes necessary when a program encounters an error from which it cannot recover. On PCs, you can perform a warm boot by pressing the Control, Alt, and Delete keys simultaneously.

COLD BOOTING:-The start-up of a computer from a powered-down, or off, state. Also called a hard boot.
i.e. Natural way of starting a computer.

connecting to mysql

Go to the c:\..\ mysql/bin directory and type the following commands at the end of the c:\..\mysql\bin> mysql -u root
It will allow you to enter into the mysql in root mode.
you can then see " mysql> " likely prompt this is the area you need to work with mysql commands.
you can use mysql commands here like create table ,alter table,..etc.,
